Cure for the Sick II

Hi guys!

It has been a real long time I've touched this blog due to exams and studies and blah blah. So today I want to post about something that might interest come of you who might have life issues or study issues. It's about what you should and should not eat during periods of depression.

Firstly to treat depression, AVOID HEAVILY PROCESSED FOOD which means avoiding junk food and fast food altogether. One of the symptoms of depression is heavy eating of useless materials (junk food) and this would cause the body to work harder and harder everytime you feast on rubbish and it's not going to help you get away with your depression.

Instead, eat food that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids and fast food DO NOT contain such minerals. Yes, fatty acids are minerals and if you think they're useless then you're so darn wrong. It has shown to raise serotonin levels in the brain, which may reduce the feelings of depression. Some of these foods include nuts, grains, seeds, beans and deep-water fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and herring. (Another choice would be taking pills that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids though I'd recommend not.)

Another way is to eat food that are high in magnesium. This is because magnesium deficiencies have also been recently linked to this condition. Foods that are high in magnesium include fish, barley, artichokes, buckwheat, oat bran, almonds, cashews, pine nuts, black beans, white beans, cornmeal, spinach, tomatoes, pumpkins seeds and soybeans.

One more point, AVOID DESSERTS AND COFFEE!!!!! It's partially due to the sugar in those food items and the caffeine in coffee that makes one jumpy and twitchy and sugar rushes which in turn would worsen your depression.

So to wrap things up I've come up with a diet plan to cope with the depression symptoms:

Breakfast: Eat oats and oat meals and to top it up add a banana to your morning!
(Oats are used for treating persons addicted to anti-depression drugs and aid in relaxing anxiety and depression. Bananas contains a protein compound called tryptophan, which the body will convert into a hormone called serotonin which is just like eating Omega-3 fatty acids)

Lunch: A healthy dish of braised Salmon ( Preferably with teriyaki sauce!! XD) and a side dish of spinach
(Salmon which has been listed above for containing high Omega-3 fatty acids is perfect for a afternoon meal. Spinach is packed with B vitamins that are critical in the regulation of the nervous system and help cure depression.)

Dinner: End the day off with Beef and Potato STEW!!! (One of my personal favourites. XD)
(Well, beef is just what I like a lot and it's great with stew but replacing chicken with beef seems rational enough. Potato is like a bomb loaded with carbohydrates which helps release serotonin, just like Bananas!)

So there you have it, the perfect natural cure for depression. And with plenty of water and exercise I'm sure you'll be healthy in no time.
